Thank you for your interest in pursuing your doctoral studies at AFIT! We value your interest and look forward to working with you.

The Department of Engineering Physics offers doctoral degrees tied to robust academics and focused on research in a rich and vibrant environment. Many of our faculty as well as our graduates are recognized as subject matter experts in their fields, and have, over their careers, made significant contributions to DoD technology development as either government employees, academia, or the private sector.

Areas of research typically focus on problems of Air Force interest and include specialization in lasers, optical systems, optical processing, remote sensing and signature analysis, semiconductor physics, photonics, plasma physics, chemical physics, nuclear transport theory, and nuclear engineering. Research focus can be either highly experimental, highly computational, or a combination, depending on the problem and requirements of the sponsor.

Degree program content and length are largely determined by the areas and depth of knowledge required to adequately carry out the research required in his or her chosen specialty. Please review the AFIT Graduate Catalog for admissions requirements and the Degree Overview and Course Listing for additional degree information.

I invite you to browse our website, review faculty research interests, recent dissertations research capabilities and publications. Thank you for your interest. I encourage you to contact me to discuss your academic future within our department.
