FAM is Initial Skills Training for military and civilian acquisition professionals. This course provides a foundation in project management, an overview of Department of the Air Force acquisition processes, and soft skills (e.g. critical thinking and emotional intelligence). Students will get hands- on experience building an acquisition strategy, schedule, cost estimate, a budget, and more using our unique acquisition simulation. Project management skills taught: WBS, scheduling, cost estimation, risk management, EVM, systems engineering, digital materiel management, and more. Acquisition lessons include: Adaptive Acquisition Framework, FAR/contracting, PPB&E, lifecycle logistics, JCIDS, modifications, FMS, ethics and more.
Grade Restrictions: Grades O4 or GS-13 and below may attend. Higher grades/ranks require a waiver.
Special Requirements:
Officers with AFSC of 61C/61D, 62E, 63A will be scheduled by AFPC. Do not register for FAM until you receive a notification from AFIT.
OPEX officers returning to acquisitions. If you have not received a training RIP from AFPC, contact your Officer Assignment Team (AFPC.DPMLA.Workflow@us.af.mil) to get scheduled
Civilians and non-6X officers may apply for FAM immediately. To apply for FAM 104, please complete the “How to Apply for a course 1 of 2” instructions found in the “Course Registration Information” link under Course Information. Do NOT complete the “How to Apply for a Course 2 of 2” until you are contacted by AFIT to proceed with “booking” and what offerings are available to book.
Exclusions. The following are excluded from taking FAM:
*Enlisted personnel who are not in acquisition positions
*1102s
*SCEPs (Student Career Experience Program)
*Officers/civilians who already have their PM Practitioner’s certification
