The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) is an military-wide initiative designed to provide financial assistance to students who are physically and academically qualified to become military officers and are interested in attaining one of several types of health-related degrees. Those who participate in the Air Force HPSP (AFHPSP), in exchange for sponsorship, serve an active duty service obligation within the US Air Force Medical Service. This program is one of two main accession sources of medical personnel for the Air Force, providing over 75% of all medical officers currently on active duty. The program is governed by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 41-110, Medical Health Care Professions Scholarship Programs.
If you are a civilian interested in information regarding the AFHPSP (e.g. available quotas, application and qualification requirements, etc); you must contact your nearest Air Force Health Professions Recruiter. You can locate this individual at the Air Force Recruiting Service homepage at http://www.airforce.com. Select “Contact Us” and then “Advisor Locator”. At the advisor locator change the “Category” to “Health Professions” and then enter your address or zip code. A list of the nearest Air Force Recruiters (with contact information) will be populated for your use.
If you are currently on active duty, enrolled in the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) or fulltime air guard/reserve you must contact Headquarters Air Force Personnel Center (HQ AFPC/DPAM) for information regarding (and potential application into) the program. They can be contacted at 1-833-876-5701 (ask for the appropriate corps program manager, e.g. medical, dental, nurse, biomedical).
