FAM 104 - Fundamentals of Acquisition Management (FAM)

FAM is Initial Skills Training for military and civilian acquisition professionals. This course provides a foundation in project management, an overview of Department of the Air Force acquisition processes, and soft skills (such as critical thinking and emotional intelligence). Students will get hands- on experience building an acquisition strategy, schedule, cost estimate, and more. Objective: There are 26 topics covered in FAM: Teaming (including Emotional Intelligence), Project Management, Intro to Acquisition, JCIDS, WBS, scheduling, cost estimation, risk management, critical thinking, systems engineering, six pathways, contracting, software, PPB&E, science & technology, digital acquisition, T&E, EVM, logistics, modifications, FMS, and ethics.

To Apply

Grade Restrictions: Grades O1 to O4, enlisted in acquisition positions, and civilians GS-13 and below may attend. Higher grades/ranks require a waiver.

Special Requirements: New officers with the AFSC of 61C/61D, 62E, 63A - AFPC will automatically schedule your attendance and you will be contacted ~2 months prior to your scheduled offering. OPEX 63 officers – For officers returning from an OPEX tour that have not attended FAM 104, please contact your Officer Assignment Team (AFPC.DPMLA.Workflow@us.af.mil) to get scheduled Logistics Career Broadening Program (LCBP) officers – LCBP will assign you to an offering. All others may apply for space available seating based on the following priority (unless excluded below): • #2 PAQ 1101 interns • #3 All other 1101s, ANG, 61A officers in acq positions • #4 All other officers/civilians in acq positions (approved 30 days out) • #5 Enlisted in acq coded positions (approved 30 days out, unit funded) • #6 All other officers/civilians unless excluded (approved 15 days out, unit funded) Exclusions: Enlisted not in acq positions, 1102s, SCEPs (Student Career Experience Program), or officers with PM Practitioner’s certification Any questions can be directed to AFIT/LS Training Administrators at (937)656-3164 or e-mail afit.ls.educationsupport@us.af.mil
