The Air Force Acquisition & Sustainment course, SYS 281, answers the question, “How does the Air Force buy weapon systems and then do follow-on support, and who is doing it?” SYS 281 helps you to understand how your current job interfaces and impacts other areas of the Air Force weapons system lifecycle. In this course you will explore the enterprise view of the weapon system lifecycle, from “gleam in the eye requirement” to “death and disposal” of the platform. You will learn to identify interdependencies, how other processes work, and how they join to form the entire lifecycle. Next, the three core processes used to buy AF weapon systems – requirements, budgets/contracts, and the standardized five-step Defense Acquisition Framework, are explored, along with foundational processes of T&E, research management, risk and system engineering.
