Sixteen U.S. Air Force and international students from the Department of Operational Sciences’ Logistics master’s programs joined faculty member Lt Col Tim Pettit and approximately 1300 other professional logisticians in attending the annual Logistics Officers Association (LOA) conference in Las Vegas, NV. The conference, which convened 12-15 Oct 2009, focused on “Connecting with the Joint Logistics Environment.” Speakers included the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Deputy Chiefs of Staff for Logistics at Joint Staff and Air Staff, United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), and the Commander of Air Force Material Command. In addition to general conference attendance, students in Logistics Strategy (LOGM 660) had the unique opportunity to conduct personal interviews with senior leaders to hear their insights into logistics transformation. Students also assisted faculty in manning the AFIT booth in the Industry Partner Hall, taking over 100 leads for future students, and gathering contact information on alumni. Conference attendance such as this is just one example of the many relevant off-site opportunities our students participate in that enrich their graduate educational experience.
