AFIT kicks off its annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) on 1 October. The CFC's mandate is to promote and support philanthropy through an employee-focused, cost-efficient, and effective program, which provides Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all. Employees can make donations to any one of more than 24,000 local, national, and international CFC-approved charities. New for 2014 is an innovation, motivated by the proliferation of electronic donations, called Universal Giving, which allows employees to contribute to any CFC approved charity, local or national, regardless of duty station, or the charity's physical location.
AFIT's leadership showed their commitment to CFC by contributing to their favorite charitable organizations during an early giving window, leading from the front in demonstrating the AF's core values in action, and setting a positive message for AFIT, and the AF. AFIT's Director and Chancellor, Dr. Todd Stewart, shared his beliefs about what he thinks is the fundamental purpose of CFC,";it is not so much about meeting goals and target contributions, or even achieving a certain participation rate, as much as it is about reinforcing the message, that at its core, CFC is about doing the right thing, and helping folks in need." In order to increase AFIT-wide awareness for this year's CFC campaign, a cookout is scheduled from 1100-1300 on 1 Oct, at the AFIT Pavilion. Various other exciting awareness raising Special Events are scheduled throughout this year's campaign, which are all hosted by AFIT's dedicated Key Workers. CFC plays an instrumental role in supporting the local communities where AFIT Airmen reside. ";Being an Airmen in my mind means we take care of our own, that is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the Air Force and the U.S. military in general." Said Col. Doral Sandlin, AFIT Commandant.
