Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Responsiveness to National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Advanced Systems and Technology Directorate (AS&T) FY11 Outreach Program

Posted Wednesday, May 11, 2011

In September 2010, the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) principal investigator Dr. Shankar Mall of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, along with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) collaborator Max Alexander of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, responded to a last minute additional call for proposals directed at providing specific R&D desired by the Advanced Technology Group (ATG) of AS&T.  The research project is a study of the effects of mechanical fatigue on material properties of bulk carbon nanotube (CNT) wires and coaxial cables.  The NRO Outreach program manager, and ATG representatives, present at the FY11 Outreach Program kickoff meeting at AFIT on 10 Mar 2011 were impressed with the quality of work being performed and the direct responsiveness of AFIT to AS&T/ATG’s R&D needs.
