The Air Force Institute of Technology is an accredited academic institution and key player in the world-class research, acquisition, and intelligence community of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. We are part of a network that includes the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Materiel Command, and the National Air and Space Intelligence Center--placing us at the heart of cutting-edge defense research and technology. AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management is the Department of the Air Force's premier institution for advanced education. We provide operationally relevant and technically rigorous graduate education tailored to the Air and Space Forces and DoD specific needs. The graduate school offers flexible delivery options for master's and doctorate degrees as well as graduate certificates and is uniquely equipped to provide a combination of military and civilian faculty with the experience in strategic and operational defense applications. We are proud to educate and prepare both military and Department of Defense civilians to ensure the US military remains the technological world leader.
AFIT students develop resilience and perseverance through our rigorous programs and experience benefits such as low student-to-faculty-ratios, classified research capabilities, and a diverse student population including sister services, civilians, international allies, and defense industry contractors. What truly sets AFIT apart from other higher education institutions is our unwavering focus on national defense. Our students engage in thesis and dissertation research that addresses critical challenges facing the Air and Space Forces as well as the broader Department of Defense. They collaborate with world class faculty and conduct research in our state-of the-art laboratories and eleven interdisciplinary research centers.
“We are working directly on national security problems so our outputs aren't just, say--theoretical. Our outputs are real, practical, problem-solving outputs that help us respond to these critical challenges that we see across a range of different areas.”
Our strategic partnerships extend across the Air and Space Forces, Intelligence Community, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and other agencies. Our students tackle real-world challenges by performing critical and sometimes classified research that has a direct impact on national security.
“The possibilities are almost endless for the positions that the students can have upon graduation from AFIT. I’ve seen some students go on to become pilots, others have gone to work for the research labs, AFRL, and others still have even gone on to Headquarters Air Force to handle more strategic commissions.”
AFIT graduates are equipped with critical thinking skills essential for addressing the most complex defense challenges. Our alumni have held prestigious positions within the Department of the Air Force, such as Commander of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Deputy Commander of Headquarters Air Force Material Command, and Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory. As we continue into the era of the great power competition AFIT graduates are equipped with the analytical thinking and decision-making skills necessary to lead innovation, drive excellence, and shape the future of defense.
